Why Breast Massage?

Touching our breasts to keep them healthy is the most loving thing we can do for them! It feels great both emotionally and physically, precisely because breast massage causes a relase of oxytocin--the love and bonding horomone. Dr. Khalid Mahmud, author of Keeping Abreast: Ways to PREVENT Breast Cancer says a ten minute daily breast massage has been found to increase oxytocin levels by 100%!

Oxytocin not only counteracts free radical damage, it also beats depression, anxiety and stress. In other words, breast massage is excellent for overall health and wellness!

Touch is Healing

“Touch is the best way to know your breasts and not be fearful of what you may find. Why women are still reluctant to touch their breasts despite the increased focus on breast cancer awareness is a mystery to us. The time has come for women to take responsibility for their wellness, especially their breasts. If you wait for that once a year exam or mammogram, it may be too late. If everyone…will touch their Girls to maintain good breast health, breast problems may be prevented. Women will no longer approach their breasts with the negative and fearful thoughts of finding cancer…”

“Soothing, nurturing self massage is a pleasurable and relaxing way to get to know your breasts. It avoids the worry of checking for cancer, while providing an excellent early-warning system should cancer arise…Regular, loving touching of our breasts allows us to recognize normal breast changes without fear, and gives us time to respond thoughtfully to abnormal changes.”

How TO

Technique is secondary to a loving intention.

Various health practitioners prescribe a "right way" to massage breasts. But unless you have had recent breast surgery, or active breast cancer, or another serious medical condition for which massaging the breast is not reccommended, please, just have at it!

Develop a daily health habit of breast massage. In the shower, before the bra goes on, after the bra comes off, before bed, upon waking. Whenever you can squeeze or jiggle or bounce your breasts, do it! Over time you'll remember to do it more and more.

Just to get you started, here are a couple of techniques with cute and funny names that breast health advocate Cheryl Chapman teaches:

  • Beep Beep, Beep Beep, Literally, honk your breasts, compressing and releasing quickly to move the lymph through the breast. Lymph fluid moves/drains through the mammary space from nipple toward chest, so this is a great quick lymph pump.

  • Thumbs Up! If you wear a bra, hook your thumbs into the shoulder straps (at the shoulder) and lift up several times, giving the girls a good bounce. Defy gravity for a moment and move some lymph.

\

  • Round The Ranch...is something you or a partner can do in private. Cup one breast at a time with both hands, and swirl your hands around and around the breast like hands on a clock. If you do this on yourself, you'll notice that the hand on the same side of the breast stays in contact with the breast the whole time, but the other hand must lift up everytime the same-side hand comes 'round.

  • Mount Vesuvius is where you cup your whole breast with both hands closest to the chest and then gently squeeze toward the nipple, as if you were trying to make a volcano of Vesuvius. This pulls the breast off of the chest wall, which frees up one of the most congested areas, allowing lymph vessels to open up.

  • Phluff The Girls is Cheryl Chapman's trademark breast massage phrase that stands for Personal Hand Lymphatic Flow Facilitation. Simply bend over at the waist and bobble your breasts!

Who knew breast health could be so much fun!
